Every June, July and August the loggerhead turtles return to Laganas bay to lay their eggs on the sand — one of the great sights of the Mediterranean. Take a boat out to the island of Marathonisi, look for the Caretta Caretta in the bay, and swim by the Keri caves on the southern coast.
Setting out from St. Nicholas Watersport Centre by rib, we run south-west towards Laganas bay. Past Gerakas cape the boat enters the National Marine Park just south of Pelouzo island, and the first stop is the bay itself — the best place on the island to spot loggerhead turtles in open water.
A ride along the shore at sunset is a gentler way to see this coast. The horses are well trained and well cared for, so beginners are as welcome as experienced riders. Routes take in the beach at Kalamaki, a stretch of woodland, and a golden private cove where you can swim alongside the horses.
The PADI Discover Scuba Diving programme is the simplest way into the water for the first time — no experience needed, and you make your first dive on day one under professional supervision. It is also a proper first step into the wider PADI training system if you decide to carry on.
